Another manager was caught stealing money, but this situation was a bit different. He joined our team highly regarded and was expecting a newborn, so I wanted to support him and mentor him through early fatherhood challenges. He had been a strong employee and believed he would succeed as a manager due to his years at Domino’s. Unfortunately, like others before him, he began canceling orders at the end of the day and taking the cash. It’s puzzling why people do this since technology tracks everything, making it easy to know when to review security footage. On camera, we saw him putting cash into his wallet. Sadly, he managed to steal a couple of thousand dollars before we caught him, and I had to dismiss him.
During the court proceedings, I attended his arraignment, where his newborn and wife were present. Seeing them, I felt strongly that jail wasn’t the answer, so I asked the judge if I could speak. I explained that we would drop the case but wanted to talk directly to him about leading by example and being a good father. In the end, we dropped the charges, and I genuinely hope he learned from his experience and has become a responsible father and husband.
